About
We were both born in Cape Town in 1997, and have lived here all our lives. Both of us were born into Christian families and have since claimed our faith for ourselves.
We first met at church while we were still in high school, when helping out with the kids’ club on a Friday night, at Tokai Community Church.
Both of us went to Bible college (both George Whitefield College and the Bible Institute of South Africa). While at college we were student placements at Matt’s home church, Holy Trinity, Gardens.
In our final year of studies, we were sent as student placements to Christ Church Somerset West. After our studies were finished, we got married, moved there and Matt took on a role as a curate (minister-in-training).
After Matt completed his two-year curacy, we moved to the City Centre of Cape Town where Matt was seconded by REACH-SA to a German church, the Stadtmission am Kap. In 2025, we returned to CCSW, where Matt serves as an assistant minister.
Meet Matt
Matthew Courtney serves as an assistant minister at Christ Church Somerset West, with the help of his wife, Kendra. He studied at the Bible Institute of South Africa and George Whitefield College before entering full-time ministry in REACH-SA and holds an MTh in covenant theology. While focusing on local church ministry, he aims to benefit the broader church by serving as a part-time lecturer at the Bible Institute of South Africa and writing articles for those serving in their local church. In his spare time, he enjoys running, reading, and brewing a good cup of coffee.
Meet Kendra
Kendra Courtney was born in Cape Town and studied children’s ministry at George Whitefield College before completing her undergrad at the Bible Institute of South Africa. While she and Matt were studying, they worked as wedding photographers. Kendra enjoyed organising everything behind-the-scenes for their photography business and has pivoted to this full-time, setting up client management systems for small service-based businesses.
